This week we will be discussing getting ACTIVE! I want to challenge each one of you to find at least 30 minutes a day that you can do some sort of physical activity which could include: going to a gym, running around the neighborhood, playing outside with your kids, going on a walk, or even meeting up with friends for some sort of physical activity. How many times during the week were you doing something like laying on the couch watching TV, when instead you could have done something to help improve your body? I’m sure everyone has been guilty of it at some point, but now we are going to change that, get up and do SOMETHING!
Personally, I would recommend that everyone have a membership to a gym or a local recreation center, for two reasons. Reason number one being that the gym will have everything you need in one building whether that be weights, cardio equipment, a pool, basketball courts, or group classes. Reason number two when you are at the gym you are there for a reason…to get something done. Mentality is going to play a huge part in your process of creating a healthy fit lifestyle for yourself so you need to be in places and situations that will help your mentality, when you’re at the gym you know you have to get some sort of exercise done.
Some people do great with home gyms as long as they know not to get distracted with things around the house. If the gym isn’t for you, that’s perfectly fine, there are tons of things you can do around the house. Pushups, crunches, bodyweight squats, lunges, chair dips, and pull-ups are all very effective exercises that can be done at home or at a park. One thing I find that is fun and beneficial is going on bike rides, hiking, and swimming; while they are definitely great ways to exercise and stay ACTIVE, they are also fun and great to do with friends and family. Bottom line is the list of benefits of being active versus the list of benefits of sitting on the couch don’t even compare. Get up and start being active and see your body change inside and out.
